Busy having fun!!

Our Friend Basil Tuning Up at a Canadian Happy Hour!

Since our last post, we have been very busy - having fun, fun, fun. The weather isn't any better - no more than two days in a row with sunshine, but that hasn't slowed us down. Valentine's Day we were invited to a party and had a great time with our friends. It was nice enough to be outside and that made it even better. One of the highlights was that each couple told about their favorite Valentine's Day. It was surprising how many people didn't have one! I had to tell about the time that Tom and I went to the Bristol Restaurant in Overland Park, KS. I had gone over earlier in the day and left him roses to be on our table when we arrived. As we were enjoying our wonderful dinner, a barbershop quartet arrived, causing quite a stir. To my surprise, they walked right up to our table. They sang several songs to me, gave me a teddy bear, a box of candy and a rose! What a nice way to celebrate. Tom still has the ability to pull out the romance although it's a bit more difficult now that we're on the road and together all the time.
For the last two weeks, Tom has been taking a computer class to learn more about Vista. He says he's learning some stuff but it's pretty basic. I think it's great for him to get involved in something different.
A big event for us was going to a Canadian sponsored dinner/dance at the ballroom. Everything was decorated with Canadian flags, streamers and balloons. The event opened with a bagpipe soloist - it was so beautiful. Then the man who played the bagpipe and his wife joined our table to dinner, so there was a great opportunity for us to learn more about it. He's written a book about the history of bagpiping. He and his wife were great dancers too. We had a wonderful dinner followed by a fun dance. There were lots of door prizes and then "spot dance" prizes. During a song or at the end of it, each couple stayed right where they were and the couple nearest a predetermined spot was given a prize. I won for doing the stroll! It was great getting dressed up a little a dancing the night away - we were home in bed by 10:00 PM!!
Last week we also had the opportunity to spend time with some of our Excel friends, Dan and Amber, Tim and Rosie. We had a great time together and look forward to seeing them all again. Unfortunately, Dan and Amber were only here for a week, so our time was short.
Sunday, we went to Ballet Folklorico. It's not ballet in the traditional sense, but it's a program of many different dances from Mexico. The costumes are so beautiful and the dancers very talented and energetic. We've been to these performances before and they are always so enjoyable.
Tuesday I went to our book club meeting. We read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". It's a great read and the discussion made it even better.
During all these activities, Tom has had an infected hand that required several doctor visits and strong antibiotics. It hasn't been slowing him down too much but no water activities at all. Guess who is on dish washing duty. I don't mind though. He still can cook!!!
That should catch you up on why I haven't updated the blog lately. We have also managed some great evenings of card playing during this time.
Hope you are all doing well and your weather, wherever you are, is getting nicer.

Sick of being Sick!!!!

For over two weeks one or both of us has been sick with the "Texas Crud" or a bad cold. Tom insisted he had allergies, but when I got sick after four or five days of his "allergies", he finally admitted it must be a cold. We have been laying low which hasn't been too hard because most of the time the weather hasn't been great. Tom is pretty much okay now and I'm close to being there. I've even been out of the house some. So, there's no real big news from this part of the country. In the next couple of weeks, we have lots of fun things coming up so we'll have some good things to report. Hope you all are well.
